Planning submitted for a sensitive retrofit and extension in Cockermouth
We’re pleased to share that planning has been submitted for our retrofit and extension project at Mountain View, Cockermouth, just before the Christmas break.
Located within the Cockermouth Conservation Area, this project required a careful and well-evidenced approach. We worked closely with the homeowners to develop a proposal that responds to the historic character of the terrace while addressing long-standing issues with layout, comfort, and energy performance.
A comprehensive Design and Access and Heritage Statement accompanied the application, clearly setting out the site’s context, the building’s significance, and how the proposed works preserve the character of the conservation area while delivering meaningful public and private benefits.
The scheme focuses on a discreet rear extension, internal reconfiguration to support modern family living, and a fabric-first retrofit strategy to improve thermal performance and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Sustainability measures have been integrated in a way that is sensitive to the building’s age, construction, and setting.
Submitting planning before Christmas was an important milestone, and we’re proud of the collaborative effort that has gone into developing a clear, robust application. We look forward to sharing updates as the project progresses into the new year.
